Orissa’s Adwithiya Patnaik finished under-14 boys’ singles runner-up in the AITA-VDTA Talent Series Tennis Tournament at Andhra University courts in Visakhapatnam today.
Bhubaneswar boy Patnaik was beaten in the final by D Shiv Satvik (Andhra Pradesh), who won 7-5, 6-1. Earlier, fifth seed Patnaik crushed his Gurukul Tennis Academy (GTA) partner Shakti Ray 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals and third seed Gopal Raju (AP) 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. Ray advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-4 upset win over second seed Arjun Patnaik.
Besides Patnaik and Ray, four other children from the city-based academy put up modest performance in the Visakhapatnam tournament. Among them, Tamanna Patnaik, Tanmayee Patnaik and Koel Mishra reached under-14 girls’ singles second round.
In under-12 singles, Tanmayee and Koel also advanced to the second round, while Tamanna and Anish Mishra lost in the first round.
